Now Running

Happy Bhaag Jayegi – Audience Nahi!!!

Here comes the Runaway Bride who crosses the Border accidently giving everyone a good spin. Color Yellow Productions keep things bright and Vibrant; Thanks to the Anand L Rai who continues to give us brilliant stuff – Tanu Weds Manu series, Ranjhana – you can feel the essence of him in this one too. The writer director Mudassar Aziz has pulled off the story well; engaging the audience without making it anticipated.

The film opens in one of the conclaves at Amritsar attended by the Governors of Pakistan. Up Next you enter the engagement ceremony where Jimmy Shergill performs at his best rolling in the cast bringing in the wow factor with just his presence. The song ends and the bride goes missing. And there is abundance of one liners Jimmy brings in; tickling your funny bones making it perfect with his ability to deliver. It is Ali Fazal aka Guddu for whom the bride runs; accidently ends up landing in Pakistan encountering the third guy Abhay Doel aka Bilal. This much is quite sufficient to call the trouble. Diana Penty is at her best; her earlier Bollywood execution in Cocktail was the girl next door; Playing Happy she is unapologetic, the girl right on your face, succeeds to portray a loud Punjabi Happy Girl.

The runaway bride creates a chaos in Bilal’s life and how Bilal gets entangled is what makes this a fun ride. Bilal is engaged, Momal Sheikh plays his fiancée and does her part well and yet falls for Happy. Guddu loves happy and for Jimmy “Cards tak shap chuke hain”. It was his official bride and he wants her too. But the director has made the film crisp without stereotyping it to “Ek Anar Sau Bimaar” genre. It is the love story of Happy & Guddu. Everybody loves Madhubala not everybody gets it. What’s important is who does these women love. The focus remains on the plot and not on any individual making content the king; giving you some good cinematic experience.

Piyush Mishra adds up the right spice with his Urdu vocabulary and aspiration of wishes he wished some people of India were in Pakistan ringing in the humor. His act of getting on the Indian land is brilliant.

The background score of the film keeps the emotions intact, songs do distract at times apart from the Yaara O Yaara. Cinematography is convincing, Pakistan comes alive even in minuscule execution.

All 3 guys perform well, Jimmy Shergill in less screen time as well leaves an impact. Abhay Doel & Ali Fazal do their part well. The film purely belongs to Happy – Diany Penty delivers.

Mudassar Aziz – The Director has shaped up the film really well – a simple feel good film with some good fun.
