MSDhoni – A little less than a boundary.

MS Dhoni – The untold story is a biopic of such a person that made India proud on the global map with his sheer performance, perseverance, passion and leadership. The Director Neeraj Pandey honors the Indian Captain giving him his journey on celluloid making us witness Dhoni in the face of Sushant Singh Rajput. He delivers. Sushant Singh Rajput is in the best of his form leading the lead so much that you forget he is NOT Dhoni. The aura of Dhoni is such that it stays with you irrespective of the face it wears. The director succeeds.

The film begins in 2011 and ends on a high note when India won the world cup in 2011.

In between you see what it took for Dhoni becoming the One. The director has got into quite a few insights making you dive in his childhood to the days of glory and victory. Born in Ranchi, you see a small kid growing on sports, is picked up by a school teacher from doing goalkeeping in football to wicket-keeping in cricket. Yet he chooses to bat to hit boundaries and raise the scorebar. His game grows with each game he played, his aura is super positive be it family support or be it peer support. There is not much negativity floating around barring the Dad’s right concern, Anupam Kher with his experience brings in the right vulnerability and yet a great support.

The journey we suggest you watch it on big screen, for the hardcore fans of Dhoni, this film may not offer anything new. As I believe if you are a true fan, a true follower, you would have already nibbed a lot of information of his glorious days, or must have witnessed through newspapers, his matches, his articles etc.

The movie just encapsulates them and offers you on one platter “Cinema” without pepping it up with brilliant lines wherein there was a lot of scope for bringing in the motivational quotes than just age old “Kheloge kudoge toh banoge kharab, paroge likhoge toh banoge nawab”. This is where the disappointment lies. with the run time of 190 minutes, the movie indeed needed a crisp editing on few of the scenes and almost all the songs. Background score is suttle and goes well. But the frequency of songs in the second half is as good as Rajshri productions.

Sushant Singh Rajput yet makes it watchable. Go live the Dhoni moment.

Dhoni Dhoni Dhoni – what roared way back in 2011 roars now in a cinema near you.

Verdict: Silver***
