Ok Jaanu – Just about ok!!!

The ACE team comes together to bring-in something brilliant that turns out to be just as ok as its title OK Jaanu. Shaad Ali the director captures the colors beautifully but fails to strike the right chord with the audience. Having everything in hand, it is indeed the plot that is just about ok.

AR Rahman’s music and original score whatever that means doesn’t really lives up to the AR Rahman mark – it is just about ok; no song stays with you apart from the Humma Humma that too rides on the burden of the original track. Gulzar’s lyrics and dialogues both are mediocre and doesn’t ring in a single wow factor. The Shraddha – Aditya Chemistry is taken for granted from their earlier Aashiqui2 and the Ok Jaanu script majorly lacks the freshness of their chemistry. They seemed to be badly disconnected in the first half; it is only in the second half you would feel a bit for Adi and Tara when they probably live these characters.
Though they act well it is the script that has confined them to develop a new chemistry.

The film does sends the message successfully that we all are confined in our own set of limitations, our set of pre-conceived notions or fears. There is no need to confine ourselves to something we love, we shall simply surrender. What forms the challenging climax is just their confined fears or surpassing their egos. Love is beyond that line of ego and the game only ends well at the other side of the line of ego.

The film has some of the beautiful moments that makes Ok Jaanu an easy to watch without giving you much headache. Sunn Bhavara vocal song at Naseeruddin Shah’s place is brilliant making you crave for more. A mesmerizing classical number, The Humma Humma has a decent choreography but before event their chemistry grows you see them already glowing going Humma Humma making it fall flat. Enna Sona goes good as well. The film is captured majorly on the streets of Mumbai especially South Mumbai and that forms a great picturesque.

Naseeruddin shah and Leela Samson’s chemistry is well worked upon or say their ease of craft brings that out well in sync with the plot. They are the ones who inherit the right amount of sensitivity to this young couple making a path for their love to outburst and help them get out of their confinements. It has a beauty of its own.

Yet Ok Jaanu is just an ok affair. Easy to skip when you have pure entertainer in xXx and Nawazuddin’s Haraamkhor.

Verdict: Just Silver 2.5*s
